The primary goal of Call to Arms was to develop my first truly complex prototype: one that offered a wide range of features while keeping the workload manageable. At the end, the final prototype includes 8 heroes, 16 units, 35 unique powers and 14 status effects. To achieve this, I carefully designed character abilities, efficiently structured the data, and developed custom tools to accelerate the production and facilitate the debugging. The prototype also features advanced AI behaviors - built upon my experience on South Park: The Fractured But Whole. Call to Arms was a great opportunity to revisit and solve design challenges from South Park that we did not have the bandwidth to address at the time. Each kingdom is procedurally generated to increase the replay value. As with Galactic Trade, this required defining an algorithm capable of delivering experiences that are both fair and unique. The second video on the right explains, step by step, the logic behind this generation process. |
